Travel Desk

Join us for an excellent blend of the outskirts featuring the famed landmarks of the colourful display of Hindu deities in their limestone cave or be amazed with the inner secret of pewter.

Nothing beats a visit to the School of Hard Knocks at the Royal Selangor Pewter Factory, some 20 minutes out of the city center. Anyone ages 5 and up can get involved by duplicating the action of pewter-smiths: knock and bash to manipulate a sheet of pewter into a dish with hammers and mallets. Then, take it up a notch by using scrapers and wooden molds.

Visitors will be guided through the processes of forming, scraping, polishing and packing pewter. The finished dish, engraved with your initials, is yours to keep. The School of Hard Knocks promises lots of fun especially for little hands, feet and minds to get their creative start. A tour of the pewter factory nearby is a must, especially for older kids. This is a highly appropriate activity given that KL city began as a tin mining town.
